A Bit About Me

My name is Timothy Shin, and my work is rooted in the story I know best: my own. I grew up in a Korean-American pastor’s family, where faith was central, culture was complex, and expectations often felt sky-high. Navigating two languages, two sets of traditions, and the unique pressures of a ministry home taught me firsthand how family, spirituality, and cultural identity can shape (and sometimes warp) the way we see ourselves.

Why that Matters in Therapy?

Through both my own story and the stories of many people, I recognize the quiet weight our past experiences can place on your mind and body.
Anxiety and over-achieving sparked by perfectionism or negative beliefs
Shame around mental-health struggles in a community with stigma or misunderstanding
Spiritual confusion or burnout after painful religious experiences.
Identity Questions: "Who am I?" "Am I enough?"

My approach to therapy is one of understanding your unique story and navigating negative patterns, beliefs, and symptoms through faith based evidenced based interventions. I am heavily rooted in EMDR and trauma informed process, to better understand why our body and mind responds and processes our everyday experiences. Whether you are addressing stressful symptoms such as anxiety or life transition, or facing depression and sadness from past memories. I am here to walk you through each moment, to build confidence, empowerment, and healing.

I graduated from CACREP accredited counseling program at Southern Methodist University with a Master’s of Science in Counseling. I completed my supervision as a licensed associate working through all levels of care from inpatient, partial hospitalization, and individual therapy. Drawing on my play-therapy training and years of working with both teens and adults, I offer a holistic counseling approach for each stage of life and the cultural stories that shape each person’s journey.
